India Improves OCI Services With A New Digital Portal System

New Delhi: In a major step to modernize services for the Indian diaspora, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the upgraded Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) portal in New Delhi. The revamped platform aims to enhance digital user experience for OCI cardholders, offering faster access to services and simplified navigation.

The OCI card, issued to people of Indian origin who hold foreign citizenship, grants lifetime visa-free entry to India and various educational and economic benefits. With the number of OCI cardholders worldwide now in the millions, the need for a more responsive and efficient portal had become a priority.

The new portal, developed as part of the government’s Digital India initiative, integrates features such as real-time status tracking, streamlined application processes, and secure digital document management. Officials say the upgrade is designed to reduce processing delays and improve transparency.

At the launch event, Amit Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to engaging the global Indian community and delivering “world-class digital services” that reflect India's evolving technological capabilities.
